What is your role at Dropworks and what do you do?

I am a Senior Scientist in the Engineering group. My main responsibility is to guide new products through the Verification and Validation process to ensure Dropworks meets and exceeds the high expectations of our customers. My day-to-day work involves designing and running experiments to characterize the performance of the Continuum instrument. I’ve also been able to cross-train as a systems engineer to help with developing assembly procedures and find solutions to technical challenges.

Why did you decide to work at Dropworks?

I joined Dropworks because of the opportunity to be in a start-up environment that is pushing to make an important tool more available to researchers. Being able to grow my expertise from assay development and validation to now include complex instrumentation was a major factor for me joining the team. I am passionate about using science to improve human health and the Continuum instrument will enable greater access to the field of digital PCR to help unlock more discoveries in the future.

What do you find to be the best part about working with Dropworks?

The people and their drive to be successful. It is awesome to work with a team that is so brilliant, optimistic, determined, and relentless. All that energy is directed into a product that aligns with my passions and it is truly inspiring. Long days and late nights are much improved when working towards common goals with like-minded colleagues.

What is one thing your colleagues would be surprised to know about you?

One fun fact about me that some folks might be surprised to learn is that I love to garden. I spend most of my free time in the spring and summer in the backyard trying to keep plants alive in the Colorado sun. I grow all the usual veggies, but my favorites are the giant pumpkins. I have good years and bad years (my record is 46 lbs), but it is always fun to see how big they get. The only problem with giant pumpkins is cleaning up giant pumpkins. Gross!
